ISAAC Hayes, the deep-voiced soul star who won an Oscar for the theme song to the movie Shaft, died from a stroke related to high blood pressure, Memphis authorities say.

Hayes, 65, who once described himself as a "health fanatic," was being treated for high blood pressure and had suffered a stroke last year.

His body was found next to a running treadmill on Sunday in his Memphis home, and there was no indication he had hit his head or suffered any trauma, according to the Shelby County Medical Examiner David Kraus.

He concluded Hayes died from a stroke.

"The Hayes family is comfortable with Dr Kraus' recommendation to not conduct an autopsy," said a statement from the Shelby County Sheriff, in Memphis.

Hayes, who was born in Tennessee, wrote for a stable of stars at Memphis soul label Stax Records during the 1960s, emerging as a performer in his own right with the album Hot Buttered Soul.

He was the first black composer to win an Oscar, for the 1971 hit Theme from Shaft.

Martin Sheen - Martin Sheen In Court For Charlies Ex

Actor MARTIN SHEEN made an appearance in a New York court on Thursday (26Jun08) to watch the mother of his granddaughter be tried for assault.

Paula Speert, the ex-girlfriend of Charlie Sheen and mother of his eldest child, 23-year-old Cassandra, is facing charges she attacked her business partner in a Manhattan hotel.

Speert pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Sheen told the New York Daily News outside court, "It's a surprise and a shock. We're here to hear the allegations."

During the '70s and '80s, guitarist/songwriter Craig Chaquico played lead guitar with the popular rock band Jefferson Starship (which after became Starship). In 1993, he released his first base adult contemporary acoustic feat, Acoustic Highway. Chaquico, a musician since childhood, started professionally in nightclubs at age 14. He began his association with Jefferson Starship when he was 16. At first base he began recording with a few of the members and then was officially asked to link them on hitch as a track guitar player.


At the same time, Chaquico likewise helmed his own stripe Steelwind. He toured with both until joining the Starship permanently. Soon after, he developed into i of their independent songwriters. Among the songs he has penned or co-penned are "Jane," "Discover Your Way Back," and "Layin' It on the Line." Since the early '90s, Chaquico has worked on diversifying his music and branching extinct more into new years or reality music, as canful be heard in his song "Only One World" and the 1994 album Acoustic Planet, his blend of guitar playing and recordings of African and Native American music. Matt Damon and his wife Luciana Barroso have confirmed that they are expecting another baby together.
According to People magazine, Damon's representative Jennifer Allen confirmed the news, saying: "They couldn't be happier. They're so excited."
The couple, who attended the Empire Film Awards in London over the weekend, celebrated the birth of their daughter Isabella in June 2006.
Barroso also has a nine-year-old daughter, Alexia, from a previous marriage.
